Why learn First Aid..?
Why Learn First Aid..? The first half of the hour from the time of an accident or Sudden ailment is crucial to the victim. A first Aider close at hand will provide First Aid to the victim and dispatch him/her for expert medical attention. It's very often happens that the action of the First Aider will save the victim from death or at the least prevent aggravating his condition which allows fast recovery. By learning First Aid you may save family members, a child in school ,a colleague in the work place or even a stranger on the road. Projects
Child Protection Programme
According to a survey which has done by St.John Ambulance in year 2007, it found that the numbers of child abuse issues are higher in Rajanganaya Division which is geographically located in Anuradhapura district. As a result of that survey St.John Ambulance Sri Lanka decided to conduct a kind of awareness programme to build up a team whom can serve their people from this cruel disaster under youth development programme of St.John Ambulance. Therefore we have launched a child abuse awareness programme for village leaders by covering all Rajanganaya area. Mainly Rajanganaya division contains 21 Grama Niladhari divisions. We planned to launch our awareness programme by dividing above 21 divisions in to 04 groups. For our each group 60 beneficiaries from each division were included.

The main objectives of this programme are,

  • Make public more aware about the intuitions which work closely with child related abuses. These institutions are District Child Development Committee, Human Rights Commission, Women and children desk at Police & Probation Department of Anuradhapura district.
  • Make beneficiaries educate on subject areas such as child leadership, child related laws, human rights, labour laws, aspect of marriage life and issues, situation of a abused child etc.
  • Conduct a primary health care programme for above beneficiaries to recover their selves from day to day accidents which they are face in their village life.

After finishing this programme our main target is to use the same group as the key target group to convey the knowledge which they gained through this programme to other people whom live in their area. Also if we hope to carry out this kind of programmes in near future in other more needy districts in Sri Lanka. St.John Ambulance is very proud to say that we had an opportunity to support for a major issue which exists in our country.
