Home Nursing Service developed by St. John Ambulance – Sri Lanka

Due to unavailability of proper community based nursing care, in rural areas, many people are facing disabled and mental health problems. Johanniter International Assistance, Germany and St. John Ambulance – Sri Lanka, have therefore developed a Home Nursing service by conduct a one-year-training programme in five of its regional training centres throughout the country. Through this programme 400 community members will be qualified as community based Care Givers. The project which is 44,000 Euro is funded by the Johanniter International Assistance, Germany.

Rains still continue in several parts of Sri Lanka including the Northern, North Central and Eastern Provinces which have been severely affected in particular. St. John Ambulance volunteers have set up medical and relief camps in the affected areas and with the financial assistance of the Johanniter, Germany have distributed large quantities of bottled drinking water, milk foods and biscuits to over 5000 affected families in Sammanthurai and Batticaloa areas.
